Speeches
Once the winners were announced, just as any award show the winners gave speeches. I personally enjoyed hearing Doja Cat’s speech after she won Best Pop Duo Group Performance with SZA. She got very emotional and everyone watching could really tell how much this award means to her. Doja Cat is usually seen joking around and overall not serious but it was great to see her real emotions. She has recently announced that she will be stepping down from music and I hope her winning this award gives her enough reason to continue. Every speech given at the 2022 Grammy’s was heartfelt and some artists chose to use their time to speak about important topics and the music industry as a whole.

In Memoriam
The In Memoriam this year was a beautiful tribute to legends within the music industry that have passed in the last year. Rachel Zegler, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Ben Platt gave a beautiful tribute!
Tribute to Ukraine
John Legend performed his single ‘Free’ during the grammys this year as a form of solidarity with Ukraine. The beautiful song showed images on the screens from the attacks and people of Ukraine. There were two women who came into the song who had recently fled Ukraine. Ukraine president Zelensky delivered a speech at the Grammys urging people to share their story and continue to help Ukraine.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I loved watching the Grammys this year. I think there were a lot of amazing performances and the winners were more than deserving. If I were to give one critique I would maybe include a couple more awards because I think at times I forgot that I was watching an awards show and not just watching performers. I think the 2022 Grammys were a massive hit and were able to do a great job pivoting after having to reschedule the grammys since it was originally supposed to be January 31rst.
