If you were wondering why Global Odyssey is such a big thing at Woodlands, here’s why! Global Odyssey allows students to interact in an international experience or learn through educational classes related to that year’s theme. The theme is usually related to a significant global issue that can be addressed. This year’s theme is Unity – One World! Woodlands provides students with the experience of at least one international trip throughout their years of high school. Although some students may not be able to attend an out-of-state trip every year, there are still classes students can take to enhance their global understanding.
Why Is It Important?
Global Odyssey allows students to dive deeper into global/environmental issues. Students are able to be educated on these issues, creating a crucial and unique learning environment. Global Odyssey allows for independence while on an international trip, creating experiences through new surroundings. They are also able to experience this through the G.O. classes, enabling new understandings.
What Are This Year’s Trips?
They recently announced the 2025 Global Odyssey trips on September 25. This year’s trips are to Spain and Japan! Immerse yourself in understanding identity in unity through the lens of a fantastic experience like Spain or Japan. Explore different cities and practices to dive deeper into a culture and understand how it unifies with the world. From the rich architectural heritage of Spain to the serene temples and modern landscapes of Japan, each destination offers a unique way to experience the blend of tradition, innovation, and unity.
What Are This Year’s Classes?
This year, the teachers worked extremely hard to put together many exciting classes to participate in this school year! There are up to five classes shining on the theme of unity! Here is a brief explanation of each class:
- A Sports Odyssey: Exploring the ways sports can unite by participating in different sports.
- WA Film Festival: Exploring unity in watching films and sharing a meal as a community.
- Ticket To Ride: How transportation unites and divides us through field trips, projects, and more.
- Mind and Body, Get Out of the Matrix: Diving into the meaning of life through the mind and body.
- United at The Table: Immersing in different cultural foods by eating or cooking and how food unites us.
Whether you choose a class or a trip, these experiences help us to learn about the world and how we can make an impact.
GO G.O.!
